How to Workaround a Google Drive Outage

18 March 2013

Right now there’s a service disruption to Google Drive. From what I understand of the outage, from my experience, others at work and on twitter, is that working on already opened documents is ok. Listing type functionality seems and new document creation seems to be down. Not impacting everybody, but enough people as you would expect.
It would seem, if you had offline docs enabled and the docs sync’d you could happily carry on working - at least during this particular issue.

Here’s how you enable offline Google Docs, it’s pretty simple.

There are a lot of people on Twitter compaining about Google, complaining about cloud computing etc. they are understandably frustrated. Once this has all blown over I hope they remember that this type of issue is rare enough that the advatages of these services far outstrip the downsides, at least that’s how I feel.

I hope everybody enables offline mode as soon as they can!
